3 Qualities of a Stellar Brand Ambassador

Brand ambassadors are the public face of your product, so you need to take care when hiring for this position. If you write your job description well and consider the below qualities during your screening process, you will be able to glean the information needed to make sure the candidate can take on the responsibilities of the role without issue.

Passion for the Product

First, the candidate should be able to articulate their passion for your product or service. The ideal person for brand ambassador jobs does have strong familiarity with and passion for the product in question, but sometimes that’s not possible. But, even if they were not extensively familiar with your company before applying to the job, they should be able to develop the language to speak about your product quickly, otherwise, they may not have the ability to succeed in a position like this.

Online Presence

Most brand ambassador positions involve a major social media component. You may even be looking for someone who is already an influencer and has a large following. But if the brand ambassadors will be advertising your product across social media platforms on their own personal accounts, you’ll want to make sure their personal brands are consistent with your business. You’ll also need to check that they have experience building an online presence and that their current social media following is conducive to your goals. Use screening questions in your interview (or simply search for the candidate’s social media profiles) to rule out anyone who does not meet your standards.

Cooperative & Friendly

A brand ambassador likely needs to work with a broader marketing team to ensure the language they use is consistent with your company’s brand voice. They will be interacting with potential customers on a regular basis, whether in person or online, and this requires not only passion for your product, but also patience and a friendly demeanor. They may even need to be a representative for your company at events, like conferences, expos, or festivals. Candidates likely need experience with customer service or customer-facing roles to be successful in this job.
