When we set out to build GigSmart, we made a call early on that’s shaped the platform ever since: trust and safety couldn’t be a feature we bolted on later. It had to be the foundation. And the partner we picked to build that foundation was Checkr.
That was seven years ago. We haven’t looked elsewhere since.
The bet: technology over hand-holding
When we were evaluating background check providers, most of them led with their support teams — 24/7 lines, dedicated reps, the works. That was a red flag for us. We weren’t building a platform that wanted to call someone every time a check ran. We were building a platform where checks needed to run quietly in the background, at scale, without anyone thinking about them.
Checkr’s pitch was different. The technology, the API, the scalability — it all came through in the first conversation. We picked them as our first and only background check provider. That decision still holds up.

We went from a handful of monthly checks at launch to up to 12,000 a month today — background checks plus continuous monitoring — and we’ve done it with a lean ops team. Two people handling adjudication, about ten reviewing report statuses. The integration itself has barely changed in seven years.
That matters because in our business, when an enterprise client comes on and says they need thousands of checks run, we don’t have to flinch. We say yes. The infrastructure scales without the headcount scaling with it.
Speed that matches on-demand hiring
On G-Flex, a worker can accept a shift posted for an immediate start. The window from sign-up to on-site is measured in hours, not days. That only works if every layer of the stack — onboarding, screening, placement — moves at the same pace. Checkr does. New screening packages come online within a week, which has directly unlocked enterprise deals that require drug testing or MVR checks before we can even take the meeting.
Why Checkr Profiles changes the game for marketplaces
The newest piece of the partnership is Checkr Profiles — identity and photo verification at the point a worker creates their profile on G-Flex. We’ve wanted this for a long time, and we’re proud to be one of the first platforms to launch it.
The immediate impact is the obvious one: the person who signed up is the person who shows up. Less friction at check-in, fewer no-shows, faster placements. But the bigger story is what happens at the platform level. Verified workers build business confidence. Confident businesses post better shifts. Better shifts attract higher-quality workers. The marketplace gets better on both sides at the same time, and Checkr Profiles is what powers that loop.
