GigSmart Workers are independent contractors and as such do not work for GigSmart. The easiest way to identify the Worker is by their profile picture, as they choose the attire they believe is appropriate for the gig. It is also helpful to include a specific meeting place in the Gig details.

Yes. As both a Worker and Requester. If you would like to have multiple Requester accounts, you will need to provide a unique email address for each.

GigSmart values your privacy and, therefore, will not sell any of your personal information. To learn how GigSmart may use your personal information, see GigSmart’s privacy policy, which can be found at www.gigsmart.com/privacy.

A gig summary is generated after the gig has been completed. Once you have reviewed the summary and submitted a rating for the Worker, payment is processed. Any summary not reviewed within 24 hours is automatically paid.

No. GigSmart does not support any other form of payment.

Your credit card information is very secure. GigSmart utilizes the Stripe Payment System to process all credit card payments made within the application. Stripe is a premier payment processing service. Credit card information is not stored within the GigSmart app. Instead, Stripe stores it in their secure credit card vault. For more information regarding Stripe, please visit their website at www.stripe.com

No, you will not be required to issue a Form 1099-MISC to Workers that work for you for which payments are facilitated by the GigSmart app.
Refer to IRC 6041, which states that payors are not required to file the informational return Form 1099-MISC with respect to payment transactions because the transaction is a third party network transaction facilitated by the GigSmart app, which is subject to reporting under IRC 6050W, not the traditional 1099-MISC reporting under 6041.

No, you will not be required to issue a W2 to Workers that work for you through which payments are facilitated by the GigSmart app because the Workers are not classified as your employee. The Workers on GigSmart are classified as independent contractors. For more information, see IRS Publication 15 and/or 15-A.

Requesters may cancel a gig request at any time with no fee. Once you have sent a gig request, you should make every effort to honor that request. If circumstances require you to cancel the gig, it is very important to cancel at the earliest possible moment to inform the Worker and allow them the opportunity to find another gig. Although there is no monetary penalty for cancelling a gig, if you are not sure you will need the Worker(s) requested, GigSmart recommends that you do not send a gig request.

The Requester can contact the Worker by phone or text to make inquires as to any delays or concerns about the Worker showing up to the gig site. If the Worker is going to be significantly late or missed the gig, you may cancel that Worker and select another at no cost or penalty. GigSmart recommends contacting a Worker prior to cancellation.

Both Workers and Requesters may cancel gigs after they have been accepted at no cost or penalty. If a Worker has cancelled after accepting, you may select a replacement Worker at no cost or penalty.

The gig details should provide key information, including:

  • A brief description of the job
  • Main aspects, objectives, and clear and detailed instructions
  • Any preparation that is required. For example, material to be read ahead of the job, be familiar with, etc.
  • Any special/specific requirements; e.g. ability to lift a specific weight, ability to use specific technology, dress code
  • Tools for the Worker to bring: certain clothes/shoes, laptop, phone, etc.
  • Any additional documentation the Worker needs to provide when they arrive
  • Information about how to find the location, who to contact on arrival - Name and phone number, etc.

Upon payment for the work done, which is determined by the amount of time the Worker was on the clock, the Requester should rate and comment on unsatisfactory work. Remember that GigSmart is an application that allows Workers and Volunteers to make themselves available for work to Requesters. Workers are free to complete the work as they choose at the hourly rate they have set. GigSmart is not a party to the transaction between the Requester and the Worker. All disputes related to the transaction and the relationship should be posted to the comments section of the Worker rating. Be aware that Workers also rate Requesters and negative comments posted by the Worker may impair your ability to source Workers in the future, just as negative Requester comments about Workers will impede Workers from being selected for future gigs.

There is no satisfaction guaranteed other than what may be offered by the Worker. GigSmart does not guarantee the quality of the work performed or the Requester’s satisfaction.

Requesters are advised to:

  • Review the profiles of all available Workers to identify the one that meets their requirements
  • Provide clear and detailed instructions about the work they need to complete
  • Provide training, if necessary, and supervise the progress of the work being done
  • Provide feedback to the Worker if the work is not being performed in an acceptable manner so that corrective action can be taken
  • Terminate the work session if the worker continues to do the work in an unsatisfactory manner. Pay the Worker for their time and rate them. Then request a new Worker to complete the gig.

Since GigSmart does not vet Workers who present themselves on the GigSmart Workers app, it is very important that the Requesters take the opportunity to rate the performance of Workers once a gig has been completed. Be professional, objective and candid in your feedback. This way, the app will provide the information Requesters need to make informed decisions regarding Workers fit for requested work.

A standard guide is as follows:

  • 5 stars = Excellent work that generally exceeded expectations.
  • 4 stars = Good work that fully met expectations.
  • 3 stars = Satisfactory work that generally met expectations.
  • 2 stars = Poor work that did not meet expectations.
  • 1 star = Unacceptable work. Incomplete work. Unprofessional behavior or attitude.

No. We want you to have every opportunity to build a history of reviews. Since reviews cannot be added to your account until a gig has been completed, only legitimate reviews are added to your profile.

Coming Soon! Simply mark a selected Worker as a “Favorite”. Once a Worker has been designated as one of your favorites, you can filter Workers by Favorites. This will list all of your favorite Workers, allowing you to easily find those Workers you would like to invite back.

Yes. You are only required to pay the Worker for the actual time on the job. Both Worker and Requester can terminate the job at any time for any reason. If a Worker completes the task in less time than expected or circumstances prevent the job from continuing, the Requester can terminate the job and only pay the Worker for their actual time. Note, however, that when making your request you indicated an estimated job time that the Worker relied upon to make the decision to accept your gig. If a Worker feels that the estimate was artificially high to entice them to accept the gig, or through mismanagement the work was not performed as posted, the Worker may give the Requester a low-star rating, thereby making it more difficult to find Workers in the future.

Gigs end automatically at the original time requested. A second gig request can be sent to the Worker, and if accepted, the worker can continue on the gig.

Once the Worker is at the gig site, confirm their start from the Pending Workers tab. This will transition the Worker to the active roster and set their status to working.

  • A Worker asking for personal information that you normally wouldn’t share

The total amount charged to the Requester for paid gigs is the total amount earned by the Worker plus a 10% gig processing fee. The timesheet display provides a record of Worker start time, any pause during work, and end time of gig. There is no fee charged to Requesters for volunteer gigs.

Tipping is not required.

While searching for Workers, you are able to view Worker profile information such as professional work history, licenses, references, ratings and reviews, and other gig requirements. Use this information to identify Workers that meet your gig needs.

Following gig offer and acceptance, both parties can contact each other via phone or text, which will display your phone number. The address for the gig will be available to the Worker, but your personal address will always remain private.

Coming Soon! Prior to and following the completion of a gig, you have the ability to block the Worker from appearing in future search results. To view previously blocked Workers and to unblock Workers, you can do so in the blocked Workers section of your profile. The Workers will not be informed that they have been blocked by you.

You can end the gig and send the Worker home at any time. However, GigSmart does not facilitate a refund for work deemed to be unsatisfactory. If you are unsatisfied with work performed, you can give the Worker a low rating.
