4 Things to Screen for in Truck Loader Applications
If you’re hiring for a short-term role, you may not have time to do an in-depth interview. And even if you are interviewing for a permanent truck loader position, you may want to narrow down your application pool as early as possible to limit your time spent interviewing candidates. That’s why it’s good to have a short list of must-haves and screen for them as you’re reviewing applications. We’ve rounded up a few possible items you might want to look for on candidate applications.
Expected Work Schedule
If you ask any questions about the candidate’s expected work schedule in the application, it’s a good idea to make sure their work hours line up with what you need. This is a quick way to weed out any candidates who may look like good options based on their skills but aren’t a good fit for the job for logistical reasons.
References from Past Employers
This is usually a later step in the hiring process, but if you ask for references up front, you may be able to get information about a candidate’s past work performance earlier. With platforms like GigSmart, you can even see past ratings and reviews for a candidate. This way, you’ll be able to gauge a candidate’s ability based on first-hand accounts rather than guessing based on what’s written on their resume.
Past Experience
Does the potential employee have past experience loading trucks? Have they worked with a forklift or other heavy equipment before? What kind of materials have they loaded in the past? This information should hopefully be apparent from their resume, so you can look for applications based on relevance to the actual position you’ve posted. For example, you may want someone who has specific experience loading heavy items, in which case you should only look at applicants with experience fulfilling heavy orders on their resumes.
Meets Minimum Requirements
It’s helpful to set some minimum requirements for your role. These might include having a high school diploma, the ability to lift a load of a certain weight, or a background check. Your company may have broader policies about who they hire and who they don’t: these are all items you can screen for in this preliminary round of application review.
We’re sure you’ll hire the best warehouse truck loader for the job now that you have the knowledge you need to screen candidates efficiently.
