General

Yes, you can choose one of two ways to publish your Gig so that you can hire a Worker you have previously worked with:

  • Post: Workers will be able to apply and you can review and select the ones you want to hire.
  • Invite only: You can search available Workers near you to automatically hire the ones you select.

ASAP Gigs are on-demand Gigs that you need to fill as quickly as possible. Workers will only receive notifications for ASAP Gigs if they are marked as “Available” in the Get Gigs app. Scheduled Gigs are Gigs that occur at a date and time in the future. This can be a few hours from now or up to 30 days in advance. Workers with matching skills who are located within 75 miles of your Gig will receive notifications when scheduled Gigs are posted.

Currently, you cannot block workers from future Gigs. However, this feature is on our radar and will be incorporated into our hiring app soon.

Make sure you have entered your email address and password correctly. If you are unable to remember your current password, check out this FAQ. If you still need help, please contact our Support team at support@gigsmart.com and we will be happy to assist you.

Yes. As long as you provide a unique email address for each account, you can have as many accounts as you like.

GigSmart is a software development company specializing in providing on-demand staffing solutions for the growing gig economy. GigSmart's two-sided hiring platform connects businesses who are looking for temporary labor with individuals who are looking for work. The GigSmart Get Workers hiring app allows companies to find local Workers and hire them on-demand. The GigSmart Get Gigs mobile app helps Workers apply for and complete work.

Security

GigSmart will never share your personal information, like your phone number with any Worker. GigSmart will share the Gig Address with Workers once they have been hired to work a Gig. If you need to contact a Worker as it relates to learning more about them, hiring them, or managing them while they are working, you can safely connect with them through the app by using the in-app messaging and/or calling feature. To make a call, you must use the phone number tied to your GigSmart account. GigSmart will use a temporary phone number to connect you with the Worker. To contact a Worker you can follow these steps: If they have applied to your Gig:

  • From your Get Workers account, select your Gig to view the Gig details.
  • Under the Hired Workers section, select Message under the name of the Worker you would like to message. (You cannot call Workers until they have been hired.)
  • Type your message to the Worker.
If they have been hired to work your Gig or are working your Gig:
  • From your Get Workers account, select your Gig to view the Gig details.
  • Under the Hired Workers section, select Message under the name of the Worker you would like to message. (You cannot call Workers until they have been hired.)
  • Type your message to the Worker or select the phone icon in the top right to initiate a call to the Worker. The call will be placed with a masked number and we will never share your personal details.

Please report Worker messages if they include any of the following:

  • Asking for personal information that you normally wouldn’t share (like your social security number, credit card information, or other personal information).
  • Asking you to contact or forward money to an outside party.
  • Asking you to wire funds via Western Union, MoneyGram, or another wire service.
  • Asking you to provide a different credit card than the one you provided.
  • Using a different email address or phone number or asking you to contact them outside of GigSmart's platform. Inappropriate messages can be immediately reported by sending an email to our Support team.

To ensure your GigSmart account is secure, we recommend following these password best practices:

  • Select a strong, complex password that contains 1 number, 1 special character, 1 capital letter and is at least 8 characters
  • Change your password every few months
  • Don't use the same password for all of your accounts
  • Pick a unique password
  • Never give your passwords to others
In addition, please be wary of suspicious links, even if they come from someone you know. If you see any inappropriate content or have safety concerns while using the app, please immediately report it to our Support team.

To change your password, follow these steps:

  • Sign in to your Get Workers account.
  • Select the "Profile" section in the Get Workers app. (This will be on the bottom of your phone screen, or you can select your profile image or the avatar image the top right corner of your web browser.)
  • Select the "Account Settings" profile category
  • Enter your current password, enter a new password, and then confirm the new password
  • Select "Save Changes"

Insurance

All GigSmart Workers who are at least eighteen (18) years of age will be eligible for Occupational Accident Insurance (OAI), subject to the policy terms, conditions, limitations, and exclusions. To access the insurance, the GigSmart Worker must be a member of the On-Demand Independent Contractors Association (ODICA). To become a member of ODICA, the worker must execute the updated Terms of Service through the GigSmart app. Once a member of ODICA, the GigSmart Worker is automatically covered by GigSmart's OAI policy.

Occupational Accident Insurance insures eligible GigSmart Workers for Covered Injuries that happen while they are logged into the GigSmart Get Gigs app and performing on-demand services. OAI provides benefits for medical expenses, temporary disability, loss of life, survivor benefits, dismemberment and paralysis for covered injuries directly caused by an occupational accident.

Should a GigSmart Worker sustain a covered occupational accident injury, OAI coverage can help the Worker cover unexpected medical costs that might otherwise need to be paid out-of-pocket.

OAI offers several important benefits for eligible GigSmart Workers involved in covered accidents:

  • Accidental Death Benefit: up to $10,000
  • Survivor’s Benefit: up to $90,000 for eligible dependents
  • Accidental Dismemberment Benefit: up to $100,000
  • Paralysis Benefit: up to $100,000
  • Temporary Total Disability Benefit: up to $500 a week
  • Medical Expenses: up to $1,000,000 with no deductible or copay
Additional questions about GigSmart's OAI coverage can be directed to our Support team.

OAI coverage is provided (and required) for all GigSmart Workers at no cost to Requesters.

If a GigSmart Worker is injured while actively working a Gig through the GigSmart Get Gigs app, an Occupational Accident Insurance claim will need to be reported immediately. To report a claim, the GigSmart Worker will need to call the OneBeacon claims call center at 1-877-441-6274. The call center is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Please be prepared to provide policy #216-002-433, along with your phone number and email address. A OneBeacon claims adjuster will be assigned to your claim and will guide you through the claims process. The claims adjuster may request additional information and it is important that you provide that information as soon as possible to avoid any delays in the handling of your claim. If the injury requires immediate medical attention, please go to the nearest hospital or medical facility for medical treatment or dial 911. The GigSmart Worker should let the medical facility know they are an Independent Contractor and have Occupational Accident Insurance (OAI).

If you want more information about the OIA coverage please contact Bunker at support@buildbunker.com. Bunker can provide an explanation of benefits and a certificate at your request. If you do reach out, please mention GigSmart and our policy number: 216-002-433.

For more information, please visit our Verified Gigs information page.

As part of Verification Opt-In, Workers can request to receive a copy of their Checkr results. Requesters will NOT be able to see any verification result; however, Workers hired for Gigs with Verified Add-Ons have passed the related checks associated with that Gig.

Background checked workers are Workers over the age of 18 who have passed a Checkr background check. For more information on background checks, please visit our Verified Gigs information page.

MVR checked workers are Workers over the age of 18 who possess a valid drivers license and have passed a Checkr MVR check.

GigSmart is confirming the availability of the hired Worker. Once confirmed, the Worker will automatically update to hired.

Payment

The pre-authorization on your card will equal the number of workers you've hired for your gig multiplied by the hourly rate you set and the estimated duration based on gig start time and end time. For example, if you hire 2 workers at $20/hour for a 3-hour gig, you will be pre-authorized for $120.

Pending pre-authorizations will be removed within 2-5 business days.

Tipping is not required, but if desired, you can add additional payment for each Worker at the end of your Gig.

Yes! GigSmart currently accepts both credit and debit cards as payment methods.

Billing

The pre-authorization on your card will equal the number of workers you've hired for your gig multiplied by the hourly rate you set and the estimated duration based on gig start time and end time. For example, if you hire 2 workers at $20/hour for a 3-hour gig, you will be pre-authorized for $120.

Pending pre-authorizations will be removed within 2-5 business days.

A Gig summary screen will be generated as soon as you end the Worker in the app. Once you have reviewed the summary and submitted a Worker rating, the payment is processed. Any Worker not reviewed within 24 hours will automatically receive a 5-star rating and payment. Prior to the Gig, you will see a pre-authorization on your credit or debit card statement for each hired Worker. These pre-authorizations are not charges. You will only be charged the amount paid out to the Worker once the Gig is completed.

The expense should be labeled in the “Outside Services” expense category within your accounting software (Quickbooks, etc.).

GigSmart offers the lowest staffing fees of any hiring platform in the industry. Standard Gigs are subject to a fee of 15% of the total Worker’s compensation. Below you’ll see a breakdown of the fees for all Gig types:

  • Standard Gigs (No Add-Ons)
    • Fee: 15%
    • Minimum: $10 Gig fee applies to Gigs totaling less than $66.67.
  • Background Check Add-On
    • Fee: 25%
    • Minimum: $25 Gig fee applies to Gigs totaling less than $100.
  • MVR Check Add-On
    • Fee: 20%
    • Minimum: $20 Gig fee applies to Gigs totaling less than $166.67.
  • Background Check and MVR Check Add-Ons
    • Fee: 30%
    • Minimum: $40 Gig fee applies to Gigs totaling less than $133.33.

Tax Forms

No, you will not be required to issue a W2 to Workers you hire and pay through the GigSmart app because the Workers are not classified as your employees. Instead, the Workers on GigSmart are classified as independent contractors. For more information, see IRS Publication 15 and/or 15-A.

You do not need to provide 1099-MISC forms to Workers. Payment is made to Workers electronically through the GigSmart platform. Therefore, a 1099-K is issued by your payment settlement agency (credit card, debit card, PayPal). For certain third party network transactions, the payment processor only has to issue a 1099-K if the total amount of such transactions exceeds $20,000 or the aggregate number of transactions exceeds 200. Since Workers are 1099-K, the expense should be labeled in the “Outside Services” expense category within your accounting software (Quickbooks, etc.). The expense should not be recorded in the 1099-MISC section of your accounting system since these Workers received payment electronically as outlined above. For more information, please visit the IRS website.

Gig Flow

A Posted Gig is a Gig that allows all Workers with matching Skills to view and apply to your Gig. To create a Posted Gig, please follow these steps:

  • Access GigSmart from your web browser or download and open the Get Workers iOS or Android mobile app from its respective app store.
apple-app-store-icon-2  google-play-badge-1
  • Create a free hiring account by entering your email address, password, phone number, and zip code.
  • From the home screen, select the "Create Gig" button.
  • Select "Create a New Gig."
  • Select which Worker skill(s) are needed. We recommend adding more Skills so that your Gig is available to more potential applicants.
  • Select if the Gig is an hourly paid Gig or a volunteer Gig. If the Gig is paid, include the hourly rate and add payment information.
  • Enter the Gig address. The address will remain private and is only shared with Workers after you have hired them to work your Gig.
  • Select the date of the Gig.
  • Do you need Workers to start as soon as possible? If so, toggle the ASAP Worker toggle to on and set your Gig end time. If you're Gig starts at a later date, please enter the Gig start and end time.
  • Add the Gig Title, Gig Description, and optional Gig Photos.
  • Choose your Gig Add-Ons. Worker Insurance is required and covers every GigSmart Worker you hire with Occupational Accident Insurance (OAI). This Add-On is included with every Gig at no additional cost to you. You can also add optional Add-Ons to hire Workers who have passed background-checks or motor vehicle records (MVR) checks. Select and add the relevant Add-Ons for your Gig.
  • Select "Post" as the method you'd like to use for finding Workers.
  • Review the Gig summary screen to ensure all of your Gig details are correct. Once reviewed, select Post Gig to publish your Gig.
Congratulations, your Gig is now live. Matching Workers will be notified of your available Gig, and we'll notify you as soon as you have your first applicant.

Once the Worker has arrived at your Gig, you need to "Start" them from within the Get Workers app. From your Gig Details screen, select "Start" on each Worker as soon as you confirm they are ready to begin working.

Yes. You are only required to pay the Worker for the actual time they spent working your Gig. Both the Worker and the Requester can terminate the Gig at any time for any reason. If a Worker completes the task in less time than expected, or circumstances prevent the Gig from continuing, the Requester can terminate the Gig. The Worker payment is always based off of the Worker's start and end time, not the Gig start and end time.

No. Workers and Requesters are prompted to leave reviews once a Gig has reached completion. Reviews help our users make better decisions about whether or not to apply to future Gigs or hire potential Workers. If you have a question or concern about a review, please contact our Support team.

Workers and Requesters are asked to rate each other at the end of every Gig. Requesters should provide an honest rating for each Worker (on a scale of 1-5) and optional comments to help future Requesters better understand Worker quality. While GigSmart does not verify reviews, we want to ensure our community of users utilizes past reviews to influence their future hiring decisions.

If you are unhappy with the work completed during your Gig, you should rate and comment on the Worker at the end of the Gig. GigSmart is not responsible for the quality of work performed at each Gig. Leaving honest reviews highlights quality Workers and Requesters and makes it more difficult for poor Workers and Requesters to continue to use GigSmart's apps. Requesters are advised to: review the profiles of all available Workers to identify the ones that meet their requirements; provide clear and detailed instructions about the work Workers need to complete; provide relevant training; supervise the progress of the work being done; provide feedback to the Worker if the work is not being performed in an acceptable manner so that corrective action can be taken, and terminate the work session if the Worker continues to do work in an unsatisfactory manner.

Once a Worker has accepted a Gig, they should make every effort to arrive at the Gig site on time. If circumstances require them to cancel the Gig after they have accepted, they will be expected to cancel at the earliest possible time to inform you and allow you the opportunity to find a replacement. To help keep Workers accountable by reducing cancellations and no-shows, GigSmart utilizes a Warning Point System. Negative experiences can result in receiving warning points which can lead to removal from scheduled Gigs, restrictions from applying for future Gigs, and potential removal from the platform. For more information on our Warning Point system, visit our Worker Cancellation Policy page.

If a hired Worker doesn't show up and you don't cancel them, they will automatically be canceled at the Gig end time. You will not be charged. To reduce cancellations and no-shows while holding Workers accountable, GigSmart utilizes a cancellation policy on a warning point system. For more information on our Worker Cancellation Policy, please see our Worker Code of Conduct & Cancellation Policy page.

Requesters may cancel their Gig requests at any time with no fee. Once you have sent a Gig request, you should make every effort to honor that request. If circumstances require you to cancel your Gig, it is very important to cancel at the earliest possible time to inform the Worker.

You should use the Worker's profile picture to help you identify them. If the Worker uses the app to mark their arrival at the job site, you will be notified. In addition, you can use the messaging feature to text or call Workers to help them get started with your Gig. To call or message a Worker, open their Worker profile from your Gig Details screen and select "Message."
