Posted Gigs allow you to post a Gig that Workers can apply to if it matches their skills and availability. It allows you to pick the perfect applicant(s) for your Gig.

ASAP Gigs are Gigs that you need to be filled as quickly as possible. These are on-demand Gigs. Workers will only receive notifications for ASAP gigs if they are marked as “Available”. Scheduled Gigs are Gigs that you need to be filled anywhere from a few hours to 30 days after the request goes out.

You can end the Gig and send the Worker home at any time. However, GigSmart does not facilitate a refund for work deemed to be unsatisfactory. If you are unsatisfied with work performed, you can give the Worker a low rating.

Make sure you have entered your email address correctly. If you are unable to remember your current password and have signed up for an account using an email address, follow these steps: Open the app, tap the "Sign Up To Get Workers" button, tap the "Log In" button, tap "Forgot Password", enter the email address associated with your account, tap "Continue", navigate to your inbox and open the "Reset Your GigSmart Get Workers Password" email, click the link in the email, enter a new password and then confirm the new password, tap "Change Password". If you still have issues after that, simply contact our team at support@gigsmart.com.

To upload your profile picture, follow these steps

  • Select the "Profile" tab
  • Select the "About Me" section
  • Select the orange camera icon and specify if you would like to take a new picture or choose an existing image
  • Select the image you would like to use as your profile picture. The image will load into the profile image circle
  • If editing your existing profile picture, select the "Save Changes" button.

  • Sign in to your account
  • Select "Profile" in the bottom right corner
  • Select the category within your profile that you would like to edit
  • Edit the information accordingly. For example, to update your mobile number
    • • Select the "About Me" category
    • • Select the mobile number
    • • Update as necessary
    • • Select the "Save Changes" button to save your information

Yes, you can either post your Gig and see if they apply or, if they are available, search for them directly and request them for your Gig.

You are in charge of setting the hourly rate and frequency by which your Gigs are available. In addition, you can utilize our Staffing Support team to help you fill your vacant shifts. Today, GigSmart relies on a community vetting strategy utilizing "Ratings & Reviews" within the platform. Within the next 30 days, the platform will allow Requesters to request a background check when creating a Gig Posting or Inviting Workers. If a background check is requested, candidates will be screened during the process. GigSmart has partnered with Checkr, and national background check provider. Checkr currently provides background checks for gig economy companies including Uber, Lyft, Instacart, and Grubhub.

Yes. You may create both an individual and business Requester account. If you would like to have multiple Requester accounts, you will need to provide a unique email address for each.

GigSmart is a software development company specializing in providing on-demand staffing solutions for the growing gig economy. GigSmart's two-sided hiring platform connects businesses who are looking for temporary labor with individuals who are looking for work. The GigSmart Get Workers app allows companies to find local Workers and hire them on-demand. The GigSmart Get Gigs mobile app helps Workers apply for and complete work.

Security

Following the Gig request and acceptance, both parties have the ability to contact each other via in-app messaging. The address for the Gig will be available to the Worker after they have been hired for the Gig, but personal phone numbers are always kept private. A temporary phone number specific to your gig will be used when contacting Workers.

Report any message that goes against GigSmart’s content policies and guidelines by contacting us at support@GigSmart.com. Report a message if you notice any of the following: A Worker asking for personal information that you normally wouldn’t share, a Worker asking you to contact or forward money to an outside party, a Worker asking you to wire funds via Western Union, MoneyGram, or another wire service, a Worker who uses a different email address or phone number other than the one they shared in their request, a Worker asking you to provide a different credit card than the one you provided.

To ensure your GigSmart account is secure, follow these best practices to be proactive

  1. Select a strong, complex password that contains 1 number, 1 special character, 1 capital letter and is at least 8 characters.
  2. Change your password every few months.
  3. Don't use the same password for all of your accounts.
  4. Pick a unique password.
  5. Never give your passwords to others.
  6. Be wary of suspicious links, even if they come from someone you know.
  7. Report any inappropriate content or safety concerns you see so that GigSmart can be as vigilant as possible.

To change your password, follow these steps

  1. Sign in to your account
  2. Select the profile icon
  3. Select the "Account Settings" profile category
  4. Enter your current password, enter a new password, and then confirm the new password
  5. Select "Save Changes"
If you are unable to remember your current password and have signed up for an account, follow these steps
  1. Open the application (Get Workers)
  2. Select the "Log In/Create Account" button
  3. Select the "Log In" button
  4. Select "Forgot Password"
  5. Enter the email address associated with your account
  6. Select "Continue"
  7. Navigate to your inbox and open the "Reset Your GigSmart Get Gigs Password" email
  8. Select the link in the email
  9. Enter a new password and then confirm the new password
  10. Select "Change Password"

GigSmart utilizes the Stripe Payment System to process all credit card payments made within the application. Stripe is a premier payment processing service. Credit card information is not stored within the GigSmart app. Instead, Stripe stores it in their secure credit card vault. Signing Up

When you create your account, you will be prompted to verify your mobile number via an SMS confirmation code.

Signing up with GigSmart is easy.

  1. Access GigSmart from your web browser (https://getworkers.gigsmart.com) or download and open the Get Workers mobile app from the iOS or Android app store.
  2. Create a free hiring account by entering your email address, password, phone number, and zip code.
  3. Create a Gig to start sourcing applicants for your Gig. As part of your Gig creation, you can choose to find paid hourly Workers or unpaid volunteers.

GigSmart is available for both iOS and Android devices and can be directly downloaded via their respective app stores. You can also utilize GigSmart directly from your web browser by visiting https://getworkers.gigsmart.com. Insurance

Beginning January 1, 2020, all U.S. GigSmart Workers will be eligible for Occupational Accident Insurance (OAI) subject to the policy terms, conditions, limitations, and exclusions. To access the insurance, the GigSmart Worker must be a member of the On-Demand Independent Contractors Association (ODICA). To become a member of ODICA, the worker must execute the updated Terms of Service through the GigSmart app. Once a member of ODICA, the GigSmart Worker is automatically eligible for OAI coverage.

Occupational Accident Insurance insures eligible GigSmart Workers for Covered Injuries that happen while they are logged into the GigSmart Get Gigs app and performing on-demand services. OAI provides benefits for medical expenses, temporary disability, loss of life, survivor benefits, dismemberment and paralysis for covered injuries directly caused by an occupational accident.

OAI offers several important benefits for GigSmart Workers involved in covered accidents:

  • Accidental Death Benefit: up to $10,000
  • Survivor’s Benefit: up to $90,000 for eligible dependents
  • Accidental Dismemberment Benefit: up to $100,000
  • Paralysis Benefit: up to $100,000
  • Temporary Total Disability Benefit: up to $500 a week
  • Medical Expenses: up to $1,000,000 with no deductible or copay

Should a GigSmart Worker sustain a covered occupational accident injury, OAI coverage can help cover unexpected medical costs that would otherwise need to be paid out-of-pocket.

There is no cost to GigSmart Workers or GigSmart Requesters. In addition, there are no deductibles or co-pays.

If a GigSmart Worker is injured while actively working a Gig through the GigSmart Get Gigs app, an Occupational Accident Insurance claim will need to be reported immediately. To report a claim, the GigSmart Worker will need to call the OneBeacon claims call center at 1-877-441-6274. The call center is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Please be prepared to provide policy #216-002-433, along with your phone number and email address. A OneBeacon claims adjuster will be assigned to your claim and will guide you through the claims process. The claims adjuster may request additional information and it is important that you provide that information as soon as possible to avoid any delays in the handling of your claim. If the injury requires immediate medical attention, please go to the nearest hospital or medical facility for medical treatment or dial 911.  The GigSmart Worker should let the medical facility know they are an Independent Contractor and have Occupational Accident Insurance (OAI).

Verified Workers

Checkr is a third-party company that processes Worker background checks and motor vehicle records checks. As such, any issues with Worker verification need to be resolved by Checkr (not GigSmart). To learn more about Checkr, visit their website.

MVR checks are available to drivers over the age of 18 with a license issued in one of the following states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. MVR checks are NOT available to driver’s with licenses issued from the following states: Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Delaware, Hawaii, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia.

GigSmart processes a Worker’s Verification right before the Worker is hired for a Verified Gig.

Workers who pass a Checkr background check will have had no issues with the following:

  • Social Security Number (SSN) Trace
  • Sex Offender Registry
  • Global Watchlist Search
  • National Criminal Database Search

    Workers who pass an MVR check will have had no issues with the following:

    • Searches to report on the status of an operator’s driving privileges
    • The following MVR incidents are reviewed as part of the MVR adjudication matrix. The operator must have:
      • No more than one moving violation in the past three years AND no more than one accident in the past three years
      • No more than two accidents in the past three years
      • No more than two moving violations in the past three years (e.g. failure to stop at a stop sign, following too closely, improper passing)
      • No cell phone or distracted driving violation in the past three years
      • No major violation (e.g. DUI, speeding 40+ mph over the limit) in the past five years
      • Age of 18 or older

    As part of Verification Opt-In, Workers can request to receive a copy of their Checkr results. GigSmart receives every result. Requesters will NOT be able to see any verification result; however, Workers hired for Gigs with Gig Add-Ons will have passed one or both of the verification checks.

    Background checked workers are Workers over the age of 18 who have passed a Checkr background check.

    MVR checked workers are Workers over the age of 18 who possess a valid drivers license and have passed a Checkr MVR check.

    Payment

    Tipping is not required, but if desired, you are able to add an additional payment at the end of the Gig before submitting the Workers' Gig summary.

    Yes! GigSmart also allows you to use your debit card to pay Workers.

    Billing

    A gig summary is generated after the gig has been completed. Once you have reviewed the summary and submitted a rating for the Worker, the payment is processed. Any summary not reviewed within 24 hours will be automatically paid.

    The expense should be labeled in the “outside services” expense category within your accounting software (Quickbooks, etc.).

    For every Worker hired, GigSmart charges a small processing fee starting at either 15% for Gigs in excess of $66.67, or $10 for Gigs less than $66.67, based on the Worker's total compensation.

    Tax Forms

    No, you will not be required to issue a W2 to Workers that work for you through which payments are facilitated by the GigSmart app because the Workers are not classified as your employee. The Workers on GigSmart are classified as independent contractors. For more information, see IRS Publication 15 and/or 15-A.

    You do not need to provide 1099-MISC forms to Workers. Payment is made to Workers electronically through the GigSmart platform. Therefore, a 1099-k is issued by a payment settlement agency (credit card, debit card, PayPal). For certain third party network transactions, the payment processor only has to issue a 1099-k if the total amount of such transactions exceeds $20,000 or the aggregate number of transactions exceeds 200. https://www.irs.gov/instructions/i1099msc. Since workers are 1099-K, the expense should be labeled in the “outside services” expense category within your accounting software (Quickbooks, etc.). The expense should not be recorded in the 1099-MISC section of your accounting system since these Workers received payment electronically as outlined above.

    Gig Flow

    1. Access GigSmart from your web browser (https://getworkers.gigsmart.com) or download and open the Get Workers mobile app from the iOS or Android app store.
    2. Create a free hiring account by entering your email address, password, phone number, and zip code.
    3. Select "Create a New Gig."
    4. Select which Worker skill set(s) are needed. The more skills you include, the more potential Workers you can hire.
    5. Select if the Gig is a paid or volunteer Gig. If the Gig is paid, include the hourly rate and add your payment information.
    6. Enter the Gig address. The address will remain private until you have hired Workers for your Gig.
    7. Select the date and time for the Gig. If you need the Gig to start immediately, you can set the ASAP toggle to on. If not, include the Gig Start and end time.
    8. Add the Gig Title, Gig Description, and optional Gig Photos. Provide as much detail as you can to ensure Workers know exactly what they are applying for.
    9. Add optional Gig Add-Ons, like hiring Workers with background checks or motor vehicle records (MVR) checks. All Workers come with occupational accident insurance (OAI) coverage, regardless of the other Add-Ons you include.
    10. Select if you would like to "Post" or "Invite Workers." Posting a Gig will allow all Workers with related skills to view and apply, and inviting Workers will allow you to browse and hire specific Workers. You cannot Invite Workers if you have selected one or more Gig Add-Ons for your Gig.
    11. Review the details of your Gig, and save or publish it once you are ready to start sourcing Workers.

    While searching for Workers, you are able to view Worker profile information such as professional work history, licenses, references, ratings and reviews, and other Gig requirements. Use this information to identify Workers that meet your Gig needs.

    Once the Worker is at the Gig site, confirm their start from the Gig management screen. This will transition the Worker to the active roster and set their status to "Working".

    Gigs end automatically at the original time requested. You may extend the Gig time at any point while the Gig is still active, and will see the additional cost associated in the gig summary.

    Yes. You are only required to pay the Worker for the actual time on the job. Both the Worker and Requester can terminate the job at any time for any reason. If a Worker completes the task in less time than expected or circumstances prevent the job from continuing, the Requester can terminate the job and only pay the Worker for their actual time. Note, however, that when making your request you indicated an estimated job time that the Worker relied upon to make the decision to accept your Gig. If a Worker feels that the estimate was artificially high to entice them to accept the Gig, or through mismanagement the work was not performed as posted, the Worker may give the Requester a low-star rating, thereby making it more difficult to find Workers in the future.

    No. We want you to have every opportunity to build a history of reviews. Since reviews cannot be added to your account until a gig has been completed, only legitimate reviews are added to your profile.

    Since GigSmart does not vet Workers who present themselves on the GigSmart app, it is very important that the Requesters take the opportunity to rate the performance of Workers once a Gig has been completed. Be professional, objective, and candid in your feedback. This way, the app will provide the information Requesters need to make informed decisions regarding Workers fit for requested work.

    Upon payment for the work done, which is determined by the amount of time the Worker was on the clock, the Requester should rate and comment on unsatisfactory work. Workers are free to complete the work as they choose at the set hourly rate. GigSmart is not a party to the transaction between the Requester and the Worker. All disputes related to the transaction and the relationship should be posted to the comments section of the Worker rating. Be aware that Workers also rate Requesters and negative comments posted by the Worker may impair your ability to source Workers in the future, just as negative Requester comments about Workers will impede Workers from being selected for future gigs. GigSmart does not guarantee the quality of work performed or the Requester’s satisfaction. Requesters are advised to: Review the profiles of all available Workers to identify the ones that meet their requirements, provide clear and detailed instructions about the work they need to complete, provide training, if necessary, and supervise the progress of the work being done, provide feedback to the Worker if the work is not being performed in an acceptable manner so that corrective action can be taken, terminate the work session if the worker continues to do the work in an unsatisfactory manner. Pay the Worker for their time, and rate them. Then request a new Worker to complete the Gig.

    The gig details should provide key information, including:

    • • A brief description of the job
    • • Photos, if any
    • • Main aspects, objectives, and clear and detailed instructions
    • • Any preparation that is required
    For example:
    • • Material to be read ahead of the job, be familiar with, etc.
    • • Any special/specific requirements; e.g. ability to lift a specific weight, ability to use specific technology, dress code, etc.
    • • Tools for the Worker to bring: certain clothes/shoes, laptops, phones, etc.
    • • Any additional documentation the Worker needs to provide when they arrive
    • • Information about how to find the location
    • • Who to contact on arrival - name and phone number, etc.

    Both the Worker and Requester may cancel Gigs after they have been accepted at no cost or penalty. If a Worker has canceled after accepting, you may select a replacement Worker at no cost or penalty.

    The Requester can contact the Worker by phone or text to make inquiries as to any delays or concerns about the Worker showing up to the Gig site. If the Worker is going to be significantly late or miss the Gig, you may cancel that Worker and select another at no cost or penalty. GigSmart recommends contacting a Worker prior to cancelation.

    Requesters may cancel a gig request at any time with no fee. Once you have sent a gig request, you should make every effort to honor that request. If circumstances require you to cancel the gig, it is very important to cancel at the earliest possible time to inform the Worker and allow them the opportunity to find another gig. Although there is no monetary penalty for canceling a gig, if you are not sure you will need the Worker(s) requested, GigSmart recommends that you do not send a gig request.

    GigSmart Workers are independent contractors and as such do not work for GigSmart. The easiest way to identify the Worker is by their profile picture. You will be notified once they mark they have arrived at the job site. It is also helpful to include a specific meeting place in the Gig details when you create the gig.
